our ACTIONS

BEPAD turns its commitments into concrete action on the ground. This section highlights some of the projects that demonstrate how we create real and lasting change within communities.

ALL THESE ACTIONS WERE POSSIBLE WITH THE HELP OF OUR PRECIOUS PARTNER "BOUND FOR CHANGE" IN FRANCE THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT. Educational Empowerment through Books and Scholastic Resources–France

In the past, BEPAD has worked with the Pooled Fund, Save the Children, and Catholic Relief Services in the field of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).

A water supply project in Mulengeza was implemented in South Kivu with financial support from the Pooled Fund in 2008. Additionally, shelter construction projects were carried out for the most vulnerable populations in the city of Bukavu (communes of Ibanda, Kadutu, and Bagira) with financial support from SELAVIP International from 2006 to 2010.

In partnership with Bound for Change, BEPAD is currently implementing an education project in South Kivu, DRC, in the city of Bukavu.

The title of the project is: “Educational Empowerment through Books and Scholastic Resources – France.”

The goal of this initiative is to provide essential educational materials, including books, school supplies, and electronic learning devices, to underserved communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, ensuring equitable access to quality education.

In North Kivu, BEPAD signed a contract with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the pilot program aimed at strengthening human security and enhancing the resilience capacities of communities affected by armed conflicts in eastern DRC, with I4S funding.

The project focused on human security and livelihoods, improving access to land and housing, and identifying promising economic sectors to support vocational training and the economic reintegration of returnees in the territories of Rutshuru and Nyiragongo.

Two service contracts were also signed with the World Food Programme (WFP) North Kivu office in 2014 and 2015.

With funding from the World Bank, BEPAD trained 132 local development committees in the city of Bunia and its surrounding areas to strengthen the management of the infrastructure provided to them.

In partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Goma, BEPAD implemented school-based hygiene and sanitation interventions in Nyiragongo territory and the city of Goma.

Since March 2023, BEPAD has been collaborating with the Fonds Social de la République Démocratique du Congo, with funding from the World Bank, under the STEP II Stabilization Project. This social protection initiative aims to improve access to livelihoods and socio-economic infrastructure in vulnerable communities across the country. BEPAD signed a service contract to support and strengthen the capacities of Local Development Committees facilitators in the city of Bunia and surrounding areas in Ituri Province.

Other partners who have placed their trust in BEPAD include ActionAid, UNOPS (under the I4S stabilization project in eastern DRC), and Habitat for Humanity.

With World Bank funding through its partner, the Fonds Social of the DRC (STEP II project), BEPAD operates in Ituri and Haut-Uélé provinces. The organization also implemented interventions in 2020 with funding from the World Bank through UNOPS.

In Ituri Province, BEPAD operates in the territories of Irumu, Mambasa, Mahagi, and Djugu, in partnership with the Embassy of Canada in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, implementing the project “Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls,” with a focus on strengthening women’s and girls’ participation in the electoral process.

BEPAD has qualified human resources and recruits additional project staff in accordance with the standards set out in its procedures manual. The organization is a member of civil society networks in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, as well as the CRONGD (Regional Council of Development NGOs). BEPAD is also a member of the Education, Nutrition, Protection, and GBV clusters and is registered in the OCHA database.
